Tulipano Wins 3rd Race of the Season; Buchanan Retakes Points Lead!

Well after the yellow flags were out of the way, all of which occurred before the halfway point, the real racing got underway, with pit and fuel strategy playing itself out til the end of the race. 4 cars were evenly matched on long runs, and any one of them had a shot at the checkers. But at least a couple of them wanted to reserve tires and fuel in the hopes that Tulipano and Buchanan would run out of gas before the finish. It didn't happen.

Just after the halfway point, there was a constant battle underway between Chris Tulipano, Kevin Buchanan, Bigfootbuilt, and Brian Nichols as if every lap were their last. But reality set in when green flag pitstops got underway with about 55 laps to go, and it was then when a few drivers decided they needed to conserve. When it was apparent that the leaders wouldn't run out of fuel, it was too late for Brian and Bigfootbuilt, who had to settle for 3rd and 4th. This knocked Brian Nichols back to the second spot in the standings, but only 10 points behind 1st place.

There were 4 cautions, all of which happened before the halfway point. 22 lead changes happened among just 6 drivers, with Kevin Buchanan leading the most laps (91). There is a possibility that there won't be a points race next weekend, for a couple of reasons. Stay posted here at RIT, but it looks like a few more drivers may not be here, and we are also waiting on the next patch. We'd like to get familiar with the next patch before we hit the next track for points. Again, this isn't definate, but we'll keep you posted. A decision on whether we run a points race or not next Sunday will be decided by midnight Wednesday night (June 24th).
